5 Mustangs were named to the Tribune's All County Team, including Bianka Bell, So, Chamberlain, who just returned from Chula Vista, California where she was one of 42 girls selected to try out for USA's Junior National Team. Also named with Honorable Mention were Reina Baluja, Lindsey Hagberg, Kassidy Kujawa and Monica Santos.

Jefferson’s Baluja commits to FIU

Jefferson junior Reina Baluja has verbally committed to Florida International, Jefferson coach Eve Suarez said.

Baluja played at Plant last season, where she batted .362 with 17 hits, 16 RBIs, 18 runs and eight extra base hits, including three home runs. As an infielder, Baluja also recorded a .913 fielding percentage and went 2-0 on the mound with 20 Ks.

Meanwhile, Newsome coach Dawn Vanella said senior infielder Ally Ledenham has signed to Tallahassee Community College. Last season, Ledenham batted .296 with 24 hits, 18 RBIs, 13 runs scored and five doubles. She also owned a .983 fielding percentage.

TAMPA - Not many high school sophomores can say they have friends in South Africa or Japan.

Wharton's Monica Santos is one who can.

Last summer, Santos traveled to Prague to compete in the 2009 International Softball FederationYouth World Cupas a member of the Puerto Rican 16-Under Junior National Softball Team. As the starting second baseman, she helped the team capture the bronze medal. While there, she made friends with softball players from across the globe.

"It was an amazing experience, playing with my country's name across my chest," Santos said. "It was a totally different atmosphere. We had so many fans and different teams cheering for us."
