Jefferson’s Baluja commits to FIU

Jefferson junior Reina Baluja has verbally committed to Florida International, Jefferson coach Eve Suarez said.
Baluja played at Plant last season, where she batted .362 with 17 hits, 16 RBIs, 18 runs and eight extra base hits, including three home runs. As an infielder, Baluja also recorded a .913 fielding percentage and went 2-0 on the mound with 20 Ks.
Meanwhile, Newsome coach Dawn Vanella said senior infielder Ally Ledenham has signed to Tallahassee Community College. Last season, Ledenham batted .296 with 24 hits, 18 RBIs, 13 runs scored and five doubles. She also owned a .983 fielding percentage.

TAMPA - Not many high school sophomores can say they have friends in South Africa or Japan.
Wharton's Monica Santos is one who can.
Last summer, Santos traveled to Prague to compete in the 2009 International Softball FederationYouth World Cupas a member of the Puerto Rican 16-Under Junior National Softball Team. As the starting second baseman, she helped the team capture the bronze medal. While there, she made friends with softball players from across the globe.
"It was an amazing experience, playing with my country's name across my chest," Santos said. "It was a totally different atmosphere. We had so many fans and different teams cheering for us."

The 2010 ASA schedule is out, and Mustangs Bell will be participating in the following:
May 8th - Round Robin Pre-Qualifier - Location TBD
May 15th - Round Robin Pre-Qualifier - Location TBD
May 22-23, 2010 - Florida Championship ASA Qualifier - South, Florida
May 29-30,, 2010 - Florida Championship ASA Qualifier - Eddie C. Moore in Clearwater, FL
June 4-6, 2010 - North Florida Capital City Invitational, Tallahassee, FL
June 11-13th, Florida State ASA State Championship, Polk County, FL
June 18-20th, Florida ASA Championship, Jacksonville, FL
June 26-27 - Florida ASA Championship Qualifier, Clermont, FL
July 31st-Aug 8th - ASA 16U National Championship, College Station, TX
Mustangs (Bell) has already secured a berth in the 2010 ASA 16U National Championship Tournament, but will be participating in several local ASA tournaments prior to the National Championship.

The field for the 2010 16U Independence Day Tournament has been finalized, and Tampa Mustangs Bell has been selected to be one of forty eight teams to participate. The 2010 tournament will be played in Longmont, CO at either the Garden Acres or Centennial Park Fields.

The 2009 season has proven itself to be the one to remember for the Tampa Mustangs girls Fast Pitch Organization after its teams traveled all over the country participating in a number of national tournaments and qualifiers. Coming from the losers bracket to win its last five games in a row and defeating the Southaven Illusions from Mississippi twice to take the tournament. The Tampa Mustangs, under the direction of Head Coach Joe Bell, took first place in the Southern Nationals in Columbus, GA. According to Bell, winning the Southern Nationals means much more than just a tournament victory for the girls, as it gives the Mustangs-Bell a berth to the 2010 ASA Nationals in College Station, TX amongst 160 other elite teams from around the nation.
